1 Park Avenue North
At the corner of Park Avenue North and West Haywood Street, this whimsical Arts and Crafts home is the "Gateway to Chicken Hill." It was originally built in 1949 and served as a home in one end and a neighborhood grocery store in the other. The building changed hands several times over the years. In 2004 Whit Rylee and his design team, reinterpreted and renovated the house to bring it in line with the historic character of the neighborhood. It was sold to the present owners in May of 2005. The very unique floor plan is quite creative and flexible as several of the rooms could easily be utilized for different functions. The charming pebble dash stucco exterior is adorned with Glasgow Rose tile inlays based on an 1890s design by Scotland's Charles Renee Macintosh. Other features include: | |
